Development of a novel testing methodology for in-situ microstructural characterisation during continuous strain path change

Strain path transition is a common phenomenon during continuous stamping operations of sheet metal and can potentially alter the forming limit material. Enabling strain change in single experiment key challenge faced by several researchers. To understand effect on material limits, detailed characterisation needed where deformed while changed continuously. In this work, test method was developed, which consisted novel mechanical rig specimen design. The mechanism allowed DP600 steel AA5182-O aluminium samples to paths continuously without unloading specimen. Digital image correlation measurements evolution tests showed that technique able sample from uniaxial biaxial path. particular, sharper than AA5182-O. repeated scanning electron microscope (SEM) chamber observe behaviour microstructure transition. microstructural rotation bands back scattered diffraction (EBSD) maps conveyed grain both materials. controlled grains with preferred crystallographic orientations.
